Supporting Mental Health Through Play

Read about Cold Lake's previous grants here.

Building on the last two years of successful granting, Cold Lake strives to build a tangible Natural Play Space that will provide opportunities for families, seniors, children, youth, and community members to gather and create natural social connections. The natural play space will include sensory equipment for children, sun shades, an outdoor reading path, raised garden beds and a garden area. The goal for the Cold Lake Family Connections “Natural Play Space” will become a community hub of services and supports that focus on building wellbeing within our community.

An update from our Animator:

"It has been a whirlwind adventure, and our community project from last year is now in bloom, we were so thankful that everything survived the winter and we now have beautiful spring flowers. So many pollinators buzzing around the apple trees, as well as children enjoying the new renewed space. We are continuing to enhance the space, and our youth have taken it upon themselves to plant some seeds, which we will soon transplant to our small community garden. Youth Council seems to have taken on the Little Free Library and we are expanding to include a kindness rock garden this year. (We made some contacts over the last few months with some seniors and they have been painting rocks to promote Cold Lake Rocks, a local initiative where you hide kindness rocks all over the community and it becomes a huge treasure hunt all over Cold Lake). We have plans to expand the mural and we have even taken on a few youth volunteers to donate their time to help us paint out the planter boxes and get them ready for the summer."
