Viva la Vida: Mental Health Project for Mexicans & Hispanics

This was the second year that High River was successful in receiving a community grant. To read about High River’s first year grant, click here.

Many new Canadians and temporary foreign workers come to High River to work in a nearby processing plant. The reality for those newcomers is that lack of community and the language barrier can make it difficult to form connections and seek help if needed. This project is working to help members of High Level’s Mexican and Hispanic community overcome those challenges by creating a virtual library of available Spanish-language supports in the community and providing several opportunities to bring people together. Hosting monthly community cafes that centre connection and culture, as well as several events throughout the year with themes like women’s mental health, seniors’ independence, and Day of the Dead will help build community that is integral to feeling a sense of belonging.
